All coaches working with kids have up-to-date background checks and safeguarding training
Kids are always supervised during class
Children are encouraged to speak up if something feels wrong
Parents are welcome to speak to coaches at any time
🤝 Parent/Guardian Expectations
Parents and guardians are encouraged to:
Stay and watch classes when possible. However, we discourage any form of coaching from the sides.
Inform us of any medical, emotional, or developmental needs your child may have.
Let us know if your child shares something concerning at home or in class.
Listen to your kids, ask them about class and encourage their Jiu Jitsu journey.
🧒 Child-Friendly Approach
We want kids to feel safe and supported. Children are told:
They can say “no” to any activity or partner they don’t feel comfortable with.
They can speak privately with a coach at any time.
They will be listened to and taken seriously if they share a worry.
🚫 What We Don’t Allow
Bullying, teasing, or rough behavior outside of training.
Adults being alone with children (e.g., in changing rooms or cars).
Physical punishment or shouting.
Inappropriate language or conduct by coaches or students.
Social media contact between coaches and children
🧼 Hygiene & Clothing
Arrive clean, in freshly washed gear
No shoes beyond the front desk
Only bare feet or clean socks on the mat
Wear a rashguard guard/compression shirt under your gi
Keep nails short to avoid injury.
Remove jewelry or tape it securely
Wear clothing without pockets or zips (avoids scratching or trapped fingers)
🤒 Feeling Sick?
Please stay home if you:
Feel unwell
Might have a skin infection (e.g. ringworm, staph)
Have a contagious condition
If something happens that makes your child feel unsafe, you can talk to:
1. The Coach
All of our coaches have the duty to maintain a safe environment in their classes and are available to discuss any issues with you. Ask to talk to them in private after the class.

3. Safeguarding Officers As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment at The Shop. Naomi Stevens and Connor Green have been designated as trusted points of contact for any concerns involving member wellbeing, serious conduct issues, or situations that may require further attention. While they are not emergency services and cannot respond in crisis situations, they are fellow members who care deeply about the community and are here to listen, support, and help bring any serious matters to the attention of the gym’s leadership as needed. Both bring valuable experiences outside the gym and are committed to fostering a culture of safety, respect, and accountability within the gym.
